Before you pay

Three things about Whop seller taxes the dashboard never shows

01

A Whop 1099 is gross, and it withholds nothing

Whop pays out what your members and buyers paid, less its fees, and reports it once you pass the reporting threshold. Nothing is withheld for tax. To the IRS a Whop payout is self-employment income like any other: the 15.3% self-employment tax on top of income tax, both yours to pay during the year.

02

Recurring memberships change the quarterly math

A community or membership that bills monthly gives you steadier income than a launch, which makes the quarterly estimates easier to get right and the underpayment penalty easier to avoid. Refunds and chargebacks come off the top; enter your net profit after fees, refunds and the cost of delivering what you sell.

03

The write-offs that make the number smaller

Software and hosting, the tools inside your community, contractors who moderate or build, a home office, the business share of your phone and internet, ads you run to fill the community, and equipment all reduce the profit the tax is calculated on. Enter your profit after those costs.

Whop seller tax questions

Does Whop handle sales tax on what I sell?+

On sales where Whop is the merchant of record it handles sales tax and VAT, which is why they are not part of this calculator; check your seller settings for how your products are set up. Income tax and self-employment tax on your profit are always yours.

I run the community with a partner. Whose income is it?+

Whichever of you receives the payout reports it, unless you have set up a partnership or company that receives it. If two people split a payout informally, the person paid reports all of it and deducts what they pass along. A real entity is cleaner once the numbers are meaningful.

Do I pay quarterly if I also have a W-2 job?+

Usually yes, once the tax on your Whop profit is more than $1,000 for the year. Add your W-2 wages and withholding in the optional fields and the calculator tells you whether your paycheck already covers it.

When does an S-corp make sense for a Whop business?+

Roughly above $80,000 of profit, when the self-employment tax saved on distributions clears the cost of payroll and a separate return. Recurring membership income makes the salary easier to set. Amadae runs that math for members.

Estimate only, using TY2026 federal figures (Rev. Proc. 2025-32): the standard deduction, a simplified QBI deduction, and no credits or capital gains. State taxes are separate. Not tax advice.

We connect your Whop payouts, keep the books, set the tax aside as you get paid, schedule the quarterly payments, and switch you to an S-corp when it saves more than it costs.
