AdSense taxes: the 1099 comes late and withholds nothing
Google reports what it paid you on a 1099 once you pass the reporting threshold for the year, and it arrives in late January. The number on it is gross: no tax was taken out. The IRS treats it as self-employment income, which means the 15.3% self-employment tax on top of income tax, and both are your job to pay during the year.
